These first-year seedling are in between 8”-12” tall, but will grow to be very large plants, (up to 6 feet tall and wide after a few years of growth). They are popular in tropical landscaping, as they are drought-resistant, but if you are planting outside, pick a spot with space for it to grow. 

The shiny leaves are purple/deep magenta/wine-red and as it grows it can develop a tall stock. After a few years, the chunky flower stems form 20 or more spidery, delicate white and pink hued flowers that seem to explode like pink/white fireworks for a few days. If the flowers are productive, then seeds begin to form as the flowers whither and the stems begin to droop with the weight of the seed clusters.
