My husband and I made this light table using an IKEA LATT table set, two strips of color changing LED lighting and a thick translucent plastic material for the top. The lights have four settings: color change, solid (stays on whichever color you have selected), fade color change and off. Colors change from pink, red, orange, yellow, green, and blue.
It is mostly made of wood so normal wear/tear indentations in the wood are present. One small marker spot I found on the edge of the table too. Otherwise it is in great shape!
My daughters are too big for it now. The size of the table is best for toddlers and preschoolers. They loved to turn the lights off and build with their magnatiles on top of the table in the dark. Also great tabletop play space if you have a lite-brite. I’m super sad to get rid of it because it is such a great addition to a playroom or preschool and the school made one’s are so expensive. I’m hoping this will go to another family with young kiddos who can appreciate the extra sensory element a light table brings.
Here are a couple benefits:
•They are versatile teaching and learning tools that can be used for open play, academic learning, sensory integration, and scientific discovery.
•The lighted surface draws kids in and enhances the learning process. Children learn best visually. The light table makes the visuals the main feature of whatever lesson your child is learning. This also enhances the colors and provokes your little one’s imagination.
•It improves their observation skills by encouraging them to notice the subtle details on materials that are presented on the lighted surface which they otherwise would not have been able to see.
The table chairs set sell for $25 and the lighting strips were $20/ea. so the cost and value is approximately $65+ tax in those pieces alone. We had the thick plastic tabletop material on hand but that would be extra too if you bought it yourself to make a table like this. My point is there is good value in the table!
