It is thought that washboards were invented in Scandinavia. Washboards were still in limited use in North America by 1800. In 1833, a US patent was submitted for a washboard with a wooden frame and a piece of fluted tin, sheet iron, copper or zinc. Glass washboards came into use later, by the 1870’s.
This washboard is by L.S.B. Products. It has a wavy fluted metal design which is rare. It was sold by Pariseau Freres Ltee of Outremont (Montreal) Quebec.
The washboard is $125. The research is free.
