Missionskreis Osteuropa collects usuable goods for poor Romanian people.

This is a local charity started by an older lady many years ago after she became widowed. Her name is Mrs. Beyers and she lives in Suesterseel, Germany, about 10 km from the GK base. The very humble project has continued throughout the years and now involves a lot of volunteers. They collect just about anything that is still usable and when there is a truckfull, all these goods are sent mostly to Romania, sometimes also to Poland, to deprived families. The collection point is the old fire station in Suesterseel, address is Fichtenhain (that's the name of the street) and the first building you will see is the old fire station (a red building). There is a sign on the door that says: Missionskreis Osteuropa. You can deposit your donations/unwanted items like kitchenware, kitchen machines, clothes, toys, canned food, shoes, sewing machines, fabrics, shampoo, soap, vacuum cleaners etc. etc. every Monday, from 9 to 12 a.m., when the place is actually manned. (Or make an appointment on + 49 2456 1448) What I like about this charity is that there are no administration costs; what you give will get there. The distribution is organised by Christians nuns, but things get distributed to everyone, regardless of creed. The project does lots of other things, also, e.g. they collect sewing machines so the young ladies can learn a trade and become self-sufficient. I have a brochure (in German) that I can send you via email if you wish, or perhaps I can post it outside of this article - I have just tried to upload it but it's not working. The Aachen newspaper wrote an article on Mrs Beyers in 2007 when she received the Federal Cross of Merit medal, and refers to her as "the Mother Teresa of Selfkant" .http://www.aachener-zeitung

Please note: only usable goods. No trash!!

Thanks for your help!
