Excellent Antique Pre-Owned Condition. Pickup in Olathe. No Holds.
This adorable child’s rocking chair is the picture-perfect size for a bedroom or play area; could also be an ideal spot for displaying plush toys or draping a small throw on the fiddle back.
In excellent antique condition, it was made sometime between 1890 and 1920 by Cochran Chair Company of Cochran/Aurora, Indiana.
It has never been altered or reinforced and possesses all original cane work on the seat; all in perfect order with no tears or rips. Solid and sturdy, because of its age, it has some "bumps and bruises" of life that in no way impacts its beauty or utility. Crafted from solid maple wood with a wax finish that has a beautifully aged patina. The fiddle back offers a stylish look without the fuss of a more ornate Victorian rocker or the somber look of a ladder back. The gently turned front legs give it added character. Dimensions -17” x 36” x 27” W/H/D; seat 17” x 14” W/D; seat-to-floor height 14½”; crafted from solid maple wood with a wax finish; original cane seating; weight 9 lbs.
Brief History on Cochran Furniture Company
The company was formed through a partnership of three men in 1878 in Cochran, Indiana (Dearborn County). In 1879, one partner was bought out and the company’s name was changed to Cochran Chair Company. The city of Cochran at some point merged with the city of Aurora, which lies about a mile and half away. The merger took place, quite possibly by 1900 to 1901. Furniture made before 1900 will say “Made in Cochran” and furniture made after 1900 will say “Made in Aurora”. The makers label on this rocker is partially torn so I am unable to determine city of origin.
