This is an original Hoosier kitchen cabinet, an iconic cabinet that was common in homes in the early 1900s and considered an essential tool for kitchen organization. The cabinet is close to 100 years old - c1920-1925 and although it is still very solid structurally, cosmetically it is showing age related wear. Originally used as a kitchen pantry and baker's table, this cabinet holds a wealth of stories within its worn exterior.
The cabinet has a built-in drop down flour sifter, space for spice jars, and an enamel work surface that slides out to create a working space that almost doubles in size. The enamel is in very good to excellent condition. There is shelving for organization as well as drawers for utensils and containers. The cabinet is made of solid oak and has a beautiful pull down tambour door.
I have owned this Hoosier cabinet for several years and I started to restore it by removing the paint that was peeling. However as you can see from the photos, the restoration was not completed.
Please note the following:
1. The tambour door is complete but has come apart in three pieces and will have to be joined back together. This can be easily accomplished from the back.
2. Most of the original hardware is included although the chrome drawer handles are missing from the two bottom drawers. Two (non-original) handles for the drawers will be included.
3. One half of the latch mechanism is also missing on the bottom cabinet door.
Contact me if you want to know where you can obtain the original hardware to replace the missing pieces.
Please view the photos for details of the condition. Note: the last photo is an example of a similar restored Hoosier cabinet.
The cabinet's dimensions are 69 inches high, 41.50 inches wide, and 25 inches deep.
While the current appearance of this cabinet may not shine, underneath lies the potential for a stunning piece that will evoke nostalgia and charm in any home. This vintage Hoosier cabinet is a delightful piece of history, waiting to be restored to its former glory.
Disassembles into two pieces for transporting. I prefer local pickup but I am open to consider delivery to Steinbach or Winnipeg.
