As a Series of Seven Historical Fiction Novels, "The Wayfarers Journal" © by Thom Buras (TWJ) is based upon the true-life story of a young man who after enduring two life changing events chooses to abandon his previous life, discard the totality of his amassed possessions, and thereafter continue at "need level" as a "wayfarer." (Isaiah 35:8 KJV)
Maybe the reason for taking such an extreme course was because of these life changing events. Maybe the reason was because he has found no answers to several questions that for years, he has pondered. Maybe it was a combination of both reasons, but by taking steps upon this path, he felt certain the answers were not far away, in fact, he reasoned they could come at any moment.
Along this way, he would write about his passage upon the pages of his journal, which he called a Quire, recording his thoughts, observations, and feelings about his every day joys and struggles. These several personal handwritten Quires are now both the inspiration and source material for the creation of Seven Episodes of TWJ.
Episode One, The Journey to Katahdin as told by Tommy Michel, is the saga of a young man, devastated by his wife's departure, disillusioned by religious greed and dissatisfied with the material and immoral propensity of those in the city, who then rids himself of his possessions to free himself from the fetters of mundane matters. Then with a backpack slung from his shoulders, he embarks upon a three years journey that takes him afoot across the North American continent while daily reading his Bible.
It was half an hour before sunrise on the morning on the first day of March in the year 1978 when this wayfarer begins his ascent of Springer Mountain in northern Georgia in order to begin walking upon the way, and as he believed, this would be a path that would, not only lead him for over 2100 miles along the Appalachian Trail to the northern terminus atop Katahdin in Maine but it would be "The Way" that would lead him to fellowship with others who like himself desired to gain an understanding of how to worship God according to His Will. (Matthew 7:21)
From that wintry beginning, he records the passage of this journey onto the pages of his first quire and he continues to record his experiences as the days, weeks and months slowly begin to unfold, even for years the writings persisted in successively numbered Quires. The first five of these handwritten Quires tell the story of his walk upon the Appalachian Trail and this story is contained within the covers of "The Wayfarers Journal, Episode One, The Journey to Katahdin" Come Join the Journey (Trademark)
